The opportunities for fishing around Port Townsend and the Olympic
Peninsula are plentiful. Nutrient rich streams and rivers in the area support healthy
resident populations of wild rainbow, and coastal sea run cutthroat trout. Seasonal runs of
Steelhead, King, Pink, Chum and Silver Salmon return from the Pacific ocean into our local
inshore waters keeping anglers busy most of the year. Coastal sea-run Cutthroat Trout are a
local favorite. These fish provide exciting fly fishing and light gear action as they
aggressively feed on baitfish close to the shoreline. Bottom fish such as Lingcod, Rockfish / Sea Bass
and Pacific Halibut are abundant offshore.
We specialize in light tackle and
shallow water jigging for these species. In addition, the wildlife department stocks many
of our area lakes with rainbow trout in spring, and this lake fishing remains consistent
well into the summer months. The alpine lakes, rivers and streams of the local Olympic
Mountains are filled with more hungry wild trout anxious for a well placed fly or lure.
The Olympic Peninsula offers some of the best boating in the
country.
Spend a day setting out crab or prawn traps and exploring the area for coastal
wildlife and spectacular scenery. Don't forget the binoculars — sea birds, sea lions,
harbor seals, whales, porpoises, river otters and bald eagles are common around the
crabbing grounds. Enjoy the scenery, then return with a limit of fresh seafood for dinner.
(Check out our Spring / Summer Lodging Specials!) The area is also well known for its
plentiful oysters and clams. Gathering and digging them can be a lot of fun for children
and adults alike.
